Ann’s Son

Ann's Son holds a unique place in the history of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

His pedigree records him as the son of Lord Pindi and Ann. His paternal grandparents were Vital Spark and Bee Bee, while his maternal grandparents were Toddles and Dora.

Ann's Son became a central figure in the revival of the old-style Cavalier during the late 1920s. At the first meeting of the newly formed Cavalier club in 1928, he was placed on the table as a living example while members studied historical paintings of the old-style Toy Spaniels. The emerging breed standard was developed from this combination of historical artwork and the living dog.

Ann's Son also won Best of Breed at Crufts in 1928 and continued to achieve recognition in the show ring in the years that followed.

His importance, however, extended far beyond his own show career. His pedigree and descendants became part of the foundation from which the modern Cavalier developed. His influence can be seen in the pedigrees of several later important Cavaliers, making him one of the key dogs of the breed's formative years.

His influence can be traced through subsequent generations, including Duke's Son, who was his son and later became the sire of Belinda of Saxham, winner of Best in Show and the Bitch Challenge Certificate at the first Cavalier Championship Show in 1946.

Ann's Son was therefore not simply an important show dog of his era. Through his descendants, his influence became woven into the developing foundation of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
